Since he first appeared in High School Musical (over ten years ago now), Zac Efron has had a pretty fruitful career.
Showing talent for both comedy (Bad Neighbours, That Awkward Moment, Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates), and drama (The Death and Life of Charlie St. Cloud, The Lucky One), one genre that he’s – for the most part – steered away from – is musicals.
We know that he’s good at singing and dancing, but other than the sequels to HSM, Zac has so far only appeared in one other musical (Hairspray –nine years ago now).
For this reason, the news that Zac is now returning to a musical worldis pretty exciting.
It has been revealed that Efron has signed on to star in The Greatest Showman on Earth – a musical aboutP.T. Barnum, who foundedthe famousBarnum & Bailey Circus. Hugh Jackman (who proved that he could sing with Les Miserables) will play the man himself, with Zac playing a young producer who becomes his friend and apprentice.
Disney star Zendaya is also signed on to star (as a trapeze artist and love interest for Zac’s character), and Michelle Williams is reportedly also in talks.
The Greatest Showman on Earth is slated for a 2017 release, and we’re pretty excited..
